Come Celebrate Local Historic Landmark Designations!
The City of Centralia Preservation Commission invites you to participate in the plaque unveiling ceremonies to honor our local historic landmarks. These landmarks are also recognized by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency (IHPA) as State of Illinois Landmarks. This designation allows the buildings to apply for IHPA grants and technical assistance. Local landmarks will also be featured in tourism materials from the City, the Chamber of Commerce and the Historical Museum as noteworthy destinations for visitors to Centralia.
April 4th, 2009 - Illinois Theater Designation
April 25th, 2009 - Pittenger Memorial Band Shell Designation
May 11th, 2009 - City Hall Designation followed by Community Center Designation and Reception
May 30th, 2009 - Elmwood Cemetery Chapel Designation (during the annual Memorial Day Celebration)

Centralia Preservation Commission
The Centralia Preservation Commission is focused on the protection and enhancement of Centralia’s historic neighborhoods, business districts, and landmark buildings. The preservation of our local resources provides important cultural, educational, and economic assets for our city, as well as promotes economic development. Feel free to contact the Commission to find out if your home or building is a historic landmark. Many property owners can also qualify for the property tax assessment freeze program or federal income credits.
Residents are welcome to attend any of the Commission’s regular meetings. They are held at 4:00 p.m. on the second Thursday of every month in the Council Chambers of Centralia City Hall.
