Grant A. Kleinhenz was appointed as the City Manager for the City of Centralia on December 14, 2004.  Prior to his appointment, he served as the City Administrator for the City of Humboldt, Iowa from 2003-2004.  In this rural community in Northwest Iowa, he was instrumental in the planning and development of a major $2.3 million downtown redevelopment and streetscape enhancement project as well as major infrastructure improvements including rebuilding lift stations and rehabilitating the sewer collection system.  He led the planning and execution of a public relations effort for the replacement of the 52 year old municipal swimming pool with a $3.2 million Family Aquatic Center.  The project required a Bond Referendum and it was overwhelmingly approved with a 78.5% approval rate.

He also served as the Assistant Town Manager for the Town of Fishers, Indiana from 1999-2003.  Fishers is located 20 miles from downtown Indianapolis and was known for quality housing developments, fiscally responsible government, rapid but managed growth and an excellent quality of life.  During his tenure, the Town experienced 256% growth as the population increased from just over 30,000 in 1999 to over 50,000 in 2003.  Mr. Kleinhenz gained experience in public finance as he managed the process of a $20 million bond issue for road improvements, performance based budgeting, project management and capital plan development.  His career in public service started as the Executive Director of the Ripley County Economic Development Corporation in Versailles, Indiana from 1997-1999.  Here he was given the task of marketing a rural county for direct business investment from the private sector.  He was successful in locating a large producer of corrugated packaging Season Good Folding Box Company to the area creating 200 jobs and totaling over $20 million in private investment and secured funding for infrastructure upgrades to facilitate the project from the State of Indiana in the amount of $300,000.  He was an intern with the Columbus Enterprise Development Corporation located in Columbus, Indiana during the summer of 1996 where he worked with clients in a business incubator and assisted with business plan development.

Mr. Kleinhenz is a 1997 graduate of Indiana University’s School of Public & Environmental Affairs (SPEA) with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Public Affairs Management.  He also holds a Master of Business Administration Degree from Indiana Wesleyan University earned in 2002.  He is a 2007 graduate of the Economic Development Institute through the University of Oklahoma and is planning on sitting for the Certified Economic Developer (CeCD) certification.  He is a member of the International City Manager's Association (ICMA), Southwest Illinois City Manager's Association (SWICMA) and the Illinois City Manager's Association (ILCMA).

Mr. Kleinhenz resides in Centralia with his wife of fourteen years Paisley and their four children.
